Top 3 Chiropractic Myths BUSTED!

“Once you go to a chiropractor you have to go for the rest of your life.” How many of us have heard this before? I know I heard this pretty much anytime the word “chiropractor” was mentioned as I was growing up. This along with several other common myths are some of the main reasons people don’t seek chiropractic care for health concerns that could be resolved or at least reduced.

Let’s bust some of these common myths surrounding chiropractic care.

Myth: “Once you go to a chiropractor you have to go for the rest of your life.”

Fact: Once you start brushing your teeth you always have to brush your teeth. Once you go to the dentist you have to go for the rest of your life. Once you go to the gym you always have to go to the gym. These seem silly but once you understand the premise behind preventative chiropractic care this myth is easily busted.

The truth is you only HAVE to continue doing things in pursuit of a result you want. Want to get in shape and then stay in shape? Then going to the gym regularly is a must. Want less expensive and less painful dental problems down the road? Then brushing your teeth and going for dental checkups is a must. Want to avoid back pain, neck pain, headaches/migraines, and spinal surgeries? Then regular checkups from a neurologically-based chiropractor is a must.

The best things in life don’t come overnight either. You don’t brush your teeth once or go to the dentist once to have a perfect smile. You don’t eat healthy once to lose ten pounds. You don’t go to the gym once to get in shape. Likewise, chiropractors can’t correct a spine and nervous system in one or even two visits. Healing takes time and repetition.

Myth: “Chiropractic is only good for neck pain, back pain, and headaches.”

Fact: While neck pain, back pain, and headaches respond exceptionally well to chiropractic care, that’s only the tip of the iceberg! Just in our office we have had great results for things like anxiety/depression, reflux, muscle atrophy, sciatica, loss of smell, menstrual irregularities, and much more! We also have great results with kids and pregnant moms which leads us to our third myth.

Myth: “There’s no need for kids or pregnant moms without back pain to see a chiropractor.

Fact: Many ailments that are seen in adults begin as a child. The earlier we can catch these ailments developing the quicker we can get them resolved and under control. Some of these ailments actually begin during the birthing process which is traumatic on both mom and baby. There is a lot of twisting and pulling on the baby’s head which can lead to early spinal problems.

Pregnant mom’s also benefit from chiropractic care regardless of whether they have back pain or not. By keeping the pelvis aligned it allows for a much smoother, less stressful birth. Research even shows that regular chiropractic care during pregnancy can reduce labor times and pains by up to 60%!
